Course:  Musical Art

Description: This class will focus on free movement and free expression.  We will learn elementary art skills in an environment of creativity and inspiration.  The class will begin with a piece of music paired with the art of a well-known artist (e.g. Handel’s water music and Monet’s lily pads).  The project of the day will incorporate the elements and specific skills learned that day.  We will close with free art time to enhance the unique skills of each child.  

AGE RANGE OF STUDENTS:  18 months-4 years old

Course:  Art Techniques I

Description:  Learn the essential techniques to develop your drawing
skills: line, form, shape, texture, value and sketch.  
Basic exercises that will train the foundation of a good artist will consist of experimenting with pencils, color pencils, charcoal and soft pastels.  We will be using the sketch journal  to take home and sketch any ideas or objects that catch their attention.  The sketch books and most of the paper used are made by a manufacturer that uses 100% wind power, pollution free renewable energy. 

12 week syllabus:

 Pencil   Drawing Weeks 1-4   

1      -Value scale in pencil using different techniques..line, shapes

 2     -Practice in dif .objects

 3     -Bring a picture of your favorite animal..add value

 4     -Draw a monster from the book Where the Wild Things Are.

Introduction to Charcoal Weeks 5-8

5    -Still Life

6    -Draw a Victorian House

7    -Indian Portrait

8   -Draw an Old shoe

Introduction to Soft Pastels Weeks 9-12

AGE RANGE OF STUDENTS:  older students ( 9 and up ) who have had experience in art classes in the past.  This class is not for the beginner art student.  If you think your younger child has the skills for this class, please contact the instructor as it us up to the instructor to accept a younger student.

Course:  Eco Art Elements of Art through the Seasons

Description:   We will experience basic drawing combined with the
Winter colors.  Students will be mixing their own palette learning tint and
shade and preparing for a monochromatic landscape. Students will also be
learning to add texture to their mixtures.  They will be experimenting with Mosaics and collages, cutting and pasting different colors..creating works of Art.  When Spring comes we introduce the chart of colors: primary and secondary colors.  This class will also be experimenting with watercolors in diffusing paper, flowers and animals!  We will be using Cotton and natural fiber papers.  The sketch books and most of the paper used are made by a manufacturer that uses 100% wind power, pollution free renewable energy.

 12 week syllabus:

Winter Art  Weeks 1-6

3     -The Trees in Winter time

4     -Make a snowman with Eco-friendly detergent

 A personal Journal will be included in all my classes to

 keep ideas ,sketches and notes always handy and to show

Description:   Children will learn molding and shaping with this Eco Friendly  element from mother Earth Clay .  A total hands-on activity that relaxes their minds while being creative.  After we will work on Paper Mache designing your
own creature always scetching your ideas before to achieve your goal.
Another great way to explore the creative minds is doing their own story or comic book from scratch designing the front and back covers and binding it.
We will be recycling by collecting boxes from home goodies like pasta,cookies, wires,knots,bottons and aluminium foil...etc (this activity requieres the children search for special objects that we can use).

 12 week syllabus:

Weeks 1-3   Clay                                

1      - Learn how to model with this natural element.(make a bowl)

2 - Make your favorite animal    

3     - Make a real scale face

Weeks  4-7 Paper mache               

4    -Made your own Creature                    

5    -Painting and finish the creature    

6    - Made a Mask from your favorite culture                                 

7    - Painting and finish the mask

Weeks  8-9 Make a Book               

8   - Create a story  on sketch

9   - Make a book with collage

Week 10 Marionet        

10-Make a marionet from your main character

Week  11-12 Robot                        

11  -Make a Robot with boxes

12  -Make the space ship for your Robot.

Description: In this class we will continue to improve our basic knitting and crocheting skills.  Repeat students will learn new stitches and finish one (or more) projects by the end of the semester.  New students will receive a basic foundation in knitting and crocheting. 

AGE RANGE:  6 and older to adults

MATERIALS:  knitting needles and crochet needles

Course: Hand Sewing


Instructor:  Beatrice Koubi

Description: New students will receive a simple sewing kit that will expand as class continues. Advanced students will review their old sewing kits from last semester to ensure all the tools are available for the new projects. New students will start with a needle book. Some projects pertain to the holiday coming up, some are more neutral. However, all require different types of fastenings (buttons, hooks, push-buttons etc) and different kinds of sewing stitches. Depending on the students commitment  and fine motor skills several projects can be completed during the semester. During the continuation of the semester, each student is encouraged to bring toys or clothing that require mending that can be done by hand. The students will learn how to handle sewing equipment safely and independent. At the end of each of the two semesters, each student has several projects and learned how to sew safely.All projects can be entered by the student at the Youth Fair.

AGE RANGE:   5 and older to adults

MATERIALS:  provided with material fee.
